Up North: Montana's Wilderness Club
The Wilderness Club carves out a remote paradise near Canadian border
By Therese Wood
The Wilderness Club golf community in Eureka boasts over 400 lots that weave throughout forested acres among the golf course.
This featured home is near a small lake, called Wilderness Lake, where community members have access to canoes and kayaks for recreation. The homes in the Wilderness Club community are designed to have a comfortable feel, with natural elements like wood, stone and granite to reflect the timeless, natural feel of the wooded acres they share.
Whispering Ridge Woodworks created the cabinets in this Wilderness Club home.
Both the outer treatments and inner finishes are subtle and made to blend with the natural environment. In the kitchen, Whispering Ridge Woodworks created custom-crafted, dark wood cabinets with a pull out pantry. A black stone slab makes a dramatic statement for the island that Whispering Ridge Woodworks crafted as a unique contrast to the dark wood cabinets with muted, lighter color, slightly distressed under-cabinets.
The dining and great room flows openly from the kitchen, to a view beyond the deck of the woods and lake. Natural stone from Montana was used for the fireplace, and throughout the home. Jervos Construction of Columbia Falls artfully assembled the stone throughout the home to create accents and centerpieces like the great room fireplace.
A large wood slab dining table mirrors the feel and shape of the kitchen island, lending coherence to the design. Wood floors with a subtle range of varying color in the dining and front room are also locally sourced. Another feature is the large copper bathtub that adorns the shared guest bath.
Reclaimed barn wood brings a special flair to the main floor bathroom, which is contrasted with an elegant ivory distressed wood vanity.
The bathrooms contrast the darker wood features with light ivory granite countertops and blond wood wainscoting. The guest bedrooms each have a unique décor, with furniture that matches the natural feel of the homes finishes. Barn wood used throughout the home adds coherence to the natural, locally sourced materials feel. The main floor deck, looking out over the forested landscape and lake, is large enough for family and friends to enjoy gatherings on warm summer nights. Artful, large tree beams accent the deck railing, which is outfitted with a dining table, barbecue and large sitting area.

The entire back wall of the main room connects to the outdoors with sliding windows from Sierra Pacific Windows. The inside of the windows are trimmed with wood that matched the interior trim, which lends coherence to the overall style.
The Wilderness Club’s vision for homes that blend with the landscape, yet provide every sense of comfort and beauty, is perfectly executed in this welcoming, stylish home on the golf course near the lake. •
