Enjoying a cup of coffee in your cozy wall tent, miles from the end of the road, is something that many people enjoy in Montana.

A good horse will help get you there — and gear from Outfitters Supply in Columbia Falls.

The company offers a wide range of products, from pack saddles to backcountry latrines. Whether you are heading out for an overnight camp trip five miles from home or for two weeks 40 miles into the wilderness, Outfitters Supply has the equipment to get all of your gear to camp. From pack saddles to pack pads, hard panniers, soft panniers and saddle panniers, manties, rope and scales … you name it, this Montana company has it, and serves clients around the world.

Owner Russ Barnett gives customers access to his years of experience packing in the Montana wilderness. Barnett moved to Montana in 1986 and opened Outfitters Supply in Columbia Falls. Since then he has been trail riding and packing horses and mules into the backcountry of Montana. He has taught packing clinics at the local college and for various groups over the years.
“It’s a challenge to learn about horses and travel in the backcountry, but it’s not insurmountable,” owner Russ Barnett said. “Once you do learn, it’s a lot of fun.”
